Database design: Typical integrated applications
Mail merge controlled from database Customer database linking to Microsoft Word for mail merge where at the click of a few buttons the user can generate hundreds of letters to individual clients in seconds. Typically used by administration staff to vastly improve office efficiency
Word controlled from database Customer database linking to Microsoft Word with database software to query the user for several inputs and choices to generate a complex letter with the output of these queries and choices. Typically used by non-administration staff to produce professionally styled letters without having to master a word processor.
Send emails & faxes from database Customer and product database with email and fax abilities to assist with sales and marketing. Emails can be sent via Outlook or through a separate email program. Fax is also via 3rd party software, eg Winfax.
Send sms and web output from database Customer and product database with SMS (text messaging) and web facilities to assist with sales and marketing. SMS is via an email gateway. Web output can be automatically generated and uploaded using any ftp application.
Asset management with barcodes Asset management database using barcode technology to input data into the system. Barcodes can be scanned using portable or fixed devices. Barcode labels printed in various formats.
Call center applications Used in a call center where operators have simplified data input to record event logs. The manager has a much more complex tool to collate, summarise and report all the data. Also for service contracts management to monitor response times, fault attendance & rectification performance with automatic reminders faxed or emailed
